Indigenous Women's Leadership Series: The Stewards of Conservation
On October 19, 2022, we gathered to honour and celebrate Indigenous women who are leading and managing Indigenous-led conservation initiatives across the land and waters currently known as Canada.
We heard from Indigenous women who work directly on the land, and in community, as Guardian Program leaders, practitioners, educators, and project coordinators.
By promoting conservation, sustainable development, Indigenous languages and traditional knowledge, these amazing leaders are supporting healthy lands, healthy waters, and healthy communities.
This session was moderated by Gillian Staveley (Kaska Dena; Director of the Dena Kēyeh Institute), with guest spearkes Celeste Smith (Oneida Nation; Founder/Director of Cultural Seeds), Tara Marsden/Naxginkw (Gitanyow Nation; Founder of Hlimoo Sustainable Solutions), and Sharon Morin (Métis Nation, Alberta; Project Coordinator for Les Femmes Michif Otipemsiwak).
We are grateful to Elder Linda Boudreau-Semaganis for opening and closing the session in a good way.
This webinar is brought to you by the IISAAK OLAM Foundation, the Indigenous Leadership Initiative, and the Conservation through Reconciliation Partnership as part of the Indigenous Women’s Leadership Series.
