Celebrating 20 years of Coastal First Nations: History, Governance and Lessons Learned

On March 25, the Conservation through Reconciliation Partnership and the Anishawbe Business Professional Association co-hosted the webinar: “Celebrating 20 Years of Coastal First Nations: History, Governance and Lessons Learned”.  This is the second webinar in our Natural Climate Solutions series.

This webinar explored how Coastal First Nations have leveraged carbon offsets to support a conservation economy in the Great Bear Rainforest.

Kelly Brown (Heiltsuk Integrated Resource Management and Heiltsuk Reconciliation) and Paul Kariya (Coastal First Nations) shared the history of Coastal First Nations Great Bear Initiative and the establishment, governance, and management of its carbon offset program. Thanks and gratitude also goes to Bessie Brown for preparing the presentation. By sharing their experience they aim to offer guidance to other Nations pursuing natural climate solutions in their territories.

The discussion was moderated by Jason Rasevych (Anishawbe Business Professional Association) and Cornelia Rindt (NatureBank) was present to help answer technical questions during the Q&A session.
