Shaomik Inukpuk

Arqvilliit IPCA, Inuit/Nunavik Territory

 Shaomik Inukpuk is the Chair of the Arqvilliit Indigenous Protected and Conserved Area Establishment Project. He is the Inukjuak Town Manager and the President of Inukjuak Co-op in Nunavik. Shaomik is also the president of the Inukjuak Elders Home Project. Previously, he was president of the Local Hunters Trappers and Fishers Association and has been employed by the Kativik Regional Government as a Game Warden, enforcing fishing regulations and patrolling offshore areas for beluga management. For this beluga work, Shaomik has traveled the entire eastern coast of Hudson Bay. Shaomik has decades of experience with wildlife management and conservation and has extensive knowledge of all species important to Nunavimmiut (Nunavik Inuit). His ancestors used Arqvilliit as part of their home range for travel and harvesting.

Elder Dr. Flora Beardy

Kitaskiinan Kawekanawaynichikatek, York Factory First Nation

Flora Beardy is an Ininew iskwew (Cree woman) born and raised in York Factory First Nation traditional territory between Kaskatamagan and Churchill, Manitoba. Flora is an Elder, mother, community champion and historian. She holds an honorary doctorate from the University of Manitoba for her work documenting the oral history of the York Factory people. She has published a book of Ininew Oral history titled Voices from Hudson Bay and has received Awards of Excellence from Canada Heritage and the National Treasury Board. Flora has worked as an Interpreter and Board Member with Parks Canada; and as a researcher, translator, committee member, and elder advisor for her own community. Flora has recently come out of retirement to lead five Ininew Nations in protecting their shared homeland through the Kitaskiinan Kawekanawaynichikatek / “Protecting Our Shared Lands” IPCA project.

Matthew Munson

Bistcho Lake IPCA, Dene Tha’ First Nation

Matthew is a Dene Tha’ First Nation band member, former Dene Tha’ First Nation Lands Department Director, and currently a Technical Consultant, with over 12 years of experience in geographic and information management systems to inform community, government, and industry processes for planning, consultation and Traditional Use Study projects. At some of the many varied and diverse intersections, where western science and Indigenous Knowledge coalesce and combine, is where Matt likes to be - but when not working, he can also be found at the local outdoor rink practicing for the day when beer league rec-hockey resumes once again.

 
 
 
 

Justin Roy

Aki Sibi IPCA, Kebaowek First Nation

As Economic Development Officer, Justin is responsible for planning, developing, coordinating and implementing economic development policies, strategies, projects and initiatives that improve the community, socioeconomic, and business development in Kebaowek First Nation. Justin is also an elected member of Council for Kebaowek First Nation, holding the portfolios of Culture, Education, and Lands and Resources. He works very closely with Kebaowek’ Lands and Resources department in its many files, one of them being our aspirations in developing an Algonquin Nation IPCA.

 
 
 
 

Monica Shore

Executive Director, IISAAK OLAM Foundation 

Monica is the co-founder and executive director of the IISAAK OLAM Foundation, one of the three host partners of the CRP. She is a highly strategic, creative, and solutions-oriented leader, acknowledged for her ability to transform visions, concepts and ideas into successful programs and initiatives. Reconciliation is at the heart of Monica’s work. She is dedicated to building long-lasting partnerships that foster collaborative solutions in Ethical Space. Born and raised in Montreal, Quebec, Monica currently lives with her family in the traditional territory of the WSÁNEĆ people in Victoria, BC. Monica will be moderating the dialogue.
