Biocultural People

Tasha Gunasinghe

Tasha’s research will be focused on developing a metric to assess biodiversity conservation in ‘other effective area-based conservation measures’ (OECMs) following Two-Eyed Seeing Practices.

Tasha’s parents immigrated to Canada from Sri Lanka before she was born, but growing up, she always spent a lot of time in Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka is where her passion and knowledge about our oceans and environment was formed through listening to the voices of the local knowledge and feeling her own connection to what surrounded her.

Tasha carried the local stories and knowledge I learned in Sri Lanka with her during her undergraduate studies in biology at Queen’s University. She is now a Master’s student.

Tasha is a marathon reader and is always looking for new recommendations, especially if they are a classic murder mystery novel! She is looking forward to joining and getting to know the Biocultural Indicator and Outcomes Stream family.
